Health Update

In a previous blog post (Link provided below), I detailed a bit of my struggle and experience of being diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism which is also known as Graves Disease. Defined as "A condition in which the thyroid gland is overactive and makes excessive amounts of thyroid hormone. The thyroid gland is an organ located in the front of your neck and releases hormones that control your metabolism (the way your body uses energy), breathing, heart rate, nervous system, weight, body temperature, and many other functions in the body. When the thyroid gland is overactive (hyperthyroidism) the body’s processes speed up and you may experience nervousness, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, hand tremor, excessive sweating, weight loss, and sleep problems, among other symptoms". I just wanted to write a quick little update and say that as of March 2018, I have been completely free of the medication meant to help manage my thyroid. I have been going for regular blood work every 3 months to monitor my thyroid levels for any changes and so far they have been maintaining at a stable range. I am so blessed and grateful for my health more than ever after this truly eye opening experience. It feels amazing knowing that my body was able to pull through with a bit of extra help to recover from and manage this autoimmune disease that affected me in many ways. I still remain wary and cautious of any triggers that may set it off again but have been making a more active and positive effort to put more focus on my health in all aspects.
