Roots Celebration 2017

Every year, The Kelowna Metis Community Services office hosts an event at Pillar Lake in Falkland, BC. The Annual Roots Celebration is an event meant to serve Indigenous children and youth in care by helping to instill in them a sense of pride, honour and respect for their identity and heritage. Organizers and participants represent many Nations and bring together the best of what they have to share over a weekend rich in Indigenous cultural experiences focused on children and youth. Since finding and becoming part of the Metis Community here in Kelowna, I have been present at a few of their events photographing and capturing the rich culture, tradition and history. This weekend was no different and just happened to fall on my 25th birthday as well.
